Crooked Creek Nursery began on a wooded Durham property where native plants were collected, propagated, and grown from locally gathered seed. What started as a personal fascination with North Carolina's native flora has become a small backyard nursery focused on unusual species adapted to our region. We specialize in uncommon native plants that deserve a place in more North Carolina landscapes.

Why Native Plants?
You may be asking, "Why should I plant native plants in my yard?". You may also be asking, "Where have all the fireflies gone?".
Those questions are much more closely related than most people realize. When you plant a native plant, you are not just putting a pretty flower in your front yard. You are adding a piece to a puzzle of breathtaking beauty and complexity.
We had barely scratched the surface of understanding the immensely intricate relationships around us before we started paving over it and replacing it with species from half a world away.
But I would argue that the species we have here are even more beautiful both aesthetically and as functional pieces of a much, much larger picture.
